Dusherra festival 2020 (Victory over negativity)

Vijayadashami is one of the most significant Hindu festival that marks the end of the nine-day long Navratri celebrations. Vijayadashami marks triumph of Goddess Durga over the buffalo Demon Mahishasura. Vijayadashami is also known as Dussehra or Dasara and is celebrated as victory of Lord Rama over Demon Ravana. In Nepal Dasara is celebrated as Dashain.

Vijayadashami Significance

Vijayadashami marks the end of Durga Puja, remembering goddess Durga's victory over the buffalo demon Mahishasura to restore and protect dharma. It also marks a reverence for one of the aspects of goddess Devi, such as Durga or Saraswati. On the occasion of Vijayadashami, devotees carry clay idols of Durga, Lakshmi, Saraswati, Ganesha and Kartikeya to a nearyby waterbody, accompanied by music and chants, and immerse the idols in the water for dissolution and farewell.

Guwahati currently hosts around 500 Durga Pujas. But do you know which one is the oldest? The Uzanbazar Barowari Puja. The present puja is 131 years old, but its origin dates back to 1821.  It was established by Rajkumar Ghanakanta Singha of the Uzanbazar Rajbari. Due to the prevailing social unrest of the times, it was first performed in 1821, probably under the guidance of Ahom King, Swargadeo  Chandrakanta Singha. This private puja of the Ahom royal family continued till 1888. Will the name of Guwahati's airport - Lokapriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport (LGBI) - be relegated to the background and preceded by the name of the corporate behemoth, Adani Group, to which it has been leased out? Days after taking charge of the three airports at Lucknow, Ahemadabad and Mangalore, on a lease of 50 years, Adani Airports' name has been prominently displayed in all of them and it precedes their actual names at nearly all the locations.   The move has raised eyebrows of airport unions which they allege doesn’t seem to conform to the terms of agreement of the lease.
